Happy Lunar New Year! I’ll admit, it’s been forever since I’ve done a proper celebration since I live across the country from my family. And because I’m celiac, there’s very little I can eat that doesn’t contain soy sauce, so I never go out. But this year, I came up with eight things I can still do that are gluten-free friendly!
🥘 Host a Hot Pot dinner party …
🕯️ … or just make a homemade Hot Pot Candle (via @jingtastic).
💅🏼 Ask for a rabbit manicure (inspo via @sansungnails).
🥻Buy myself an entirely red outfit from Neiwai (including new underwear — their Barely Zero bras* are my favorite).
🍵 Make myself a Year of the Rabbit mug to drink from (via @aleungdesign).
🧧 Stuff some personalized red envelopes and give them to loved ones (via @hoohooandmouse). FYI — Vietnamese zodiac uses the cat instead of the rabbit.
🖼️ Go to Brenda Chi’s solo show in Chinatown LA — and if you’re elsewhere, you can buy some online. Giant Robot is also having an entire Lunar New Year themed exhibition.
🍮 Make myself some naturally gluten-free Nian Gao (recipe via @cgallary)
And if I’m feeling extra lazy (which let’s face it, I probably will be) I’ll just go to one of the LA restaurants suggested below from this week’s guest. She is the co-owner of Super Bloom1, a Queer, woman-owned bakery free of gluten, dairy, nuts, gums, and preservatives. I spoke more about them on the latest episode of The Actor’s Diet podcast.
