THE YELLOW PAGES is a newsletter recommending Asian and AAPI films, music, writing, and other inspiration — all the artsy things I wished for growing up!
🍖 Roy Choi’s Food Vlogs: I’ve been a huge fan of Roy’s for well over a decade. He’s not only one of the most talented chefs ever, but also one of the nicest and most generous (listen to our 2015 podcast interview). I was so happy when he began vlogging back in June. Since then he’s posted regularly — getting closer and closer to 100! I’m most excited that he’s at Disney World right now, because I plan on visiting there soon.
🪙 Anna May Wong Quarters: Have you held one in your hands yet? I have not, but the idea that I may come across one soon is thrilling to me. Anna May Wong, the pioneering Chinese-American film star (who my dear friend Michelle Krusiec portrayed beautifully in Netflix’s Hollywood) is the fifth woman to be celebrated in the American Woman Quarters Program this year.
🎭 Dolly de Leon in Triangle of Sadness: I actually saw this movie at the beginning of November, but haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. Mainly because of Dolly de Leon. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but read this article if you’re curious about why her performance was so groundbreaking, and why she gives me so much hope for aging Asian actresses.

Name/Pronouns:
SuChin Pak (she/her).
What do you do?
Journalist, Co-host of Add To Cart Podcast.
How do you identify?
Korean American, Yellow.
Runaway Bicycle: Launched in 2014 after quitting her day job in advertising, founder Preeti Verma started making simple, high quality, clothing in a small one bedroom apartment in Mumbai, Maharashtra. I love how the dresses are made for almost any size, how modern and timeless the clothes feel and you can tell each piece is made to order with great care.
Andersson Bell: Based in Seoul with a love of Scandanavian design, this is a beautiful global exchange of ideas that feels perfectly in the exact moment of now. Every piece is a work of art and incredibly different than almost anything out there.
good light: David Yi launched this during the pandemic and it’s simple, nourishing and a great skincare line for all types of skin. The focus, like most k-beauty brands is to protect skin for that mochi bounce. I stock up and am never without.
Naturium: After years of following Susan Yara’s no-nonsense advice on all things beauty and skin, I just knew that her skincare line was going to be amazing. There are product launches all the time, the price point is incredible and there is something in this line for every skin problem or need.
Kiwico: Started by an AAPI mom in the tech who wanted to engage her children’s curiosity through really fun STEM & art boxes. You can sign up for a subscription and each box is hours of fun, for kids and parents. They’re on another level… elevated, unique and entertaining.
BowlCut: The founders are are all “kids of Chinese restaurant owners.” Each of their sauces are lovingly made with all natural, high quality ingredients. The Char Siu BBQ Sauce on salmon is chef’s kiss.
Tomarion II: It’s hard to even describe how this thing works, but basically it’s an all natural portable infrared heating device that uses the incredible healing/heating properties of Tourmaline (a rare mineral that emits far infrared rays when heated.) All those aches & pains melt away with this “heated rock” that is in heavy rotation in my house.
